Unabhängig vom wechselnden politischen Klima gibt es eine meteorologische Konstante in der Stadt, und das ist die Härte des Moskauer Winters. Trotz der bitteren Kälte bietet die Basilius-Kathedrale bei Schneefall einen unvergleichlich schönen Anblick. Die Temperaturen im Sommer steigen dagegen oft auf über 30°C. Die beliebteste Reisezeit ist in den Monaten Juli und August, die Stadt ist dann jedoch mitunter sehr voll. Zu dieser Jahreszeit kann es außerdem extrem heiß und überraschend feucht werden. Wer kann, sollte seinen Besuch lieber auf den Sommeranfang (Mai oder Juni) oder den frühen Herbst legen.
